Trees and Toile

I ordered the 'Love is' pillows from Dear Lillie this fall.  They look wonderful in my new living room.

I love the message on the pillows.

Since we have moved into this new house, I've been trying to figure out how that will affect my decorating style.

I love all things black and white
french
farmhouse
toile
whiteglass
garden
chandeliers
vintage
neutral on the eyes
and trees????

Yes of course, as a child I spent hours and hours with trees.

It seemed easy to pull off the look I wanted in an old house with good bones in town.
But with this 1969 brown house surrounded by forest, not so much so.

I've been wondering if I should just change my look.  Sometimes you can fight things, and sometimes you can't.  You can't turn an apple into an orange.  But a girl has to be herself too.

The inspiration I needed this week came from seeing the beauty in a pile of branches on the ground.  And finding the bird's nest that came down with them.

I think that as long as I balance formal and rustic elements, I'll be ok. And that seems to me a very french thing to do after all.

I'm calling my new look - Trees and Toile

The juxtaposition of something formal and something natural, or rustic, is just the way to blend my worlds together.  I'll be bringing nature inside to enjoy.  More projects to come.  Here we go!

TREES

by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

      THINK that I shall never see
      A poem lovely as a tree.
      A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
      Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
      A tree that looks at God all day,
      And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
      A tree that may in Summer wear
      A nest of robins in her hair;
      Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
      Who intimately lives with rain.
      Poems are made by fools like me,
      But only God can make a tree.

Today I'm linking up to French Country Cottage.

  5. Hi Nancy,
    I came over from Jen Rizzo's~ the branches caught my eye, too.
    Anyone who loves trees and toile needs to be in my blogroll!
    Natural/rustic and formal mix would describe my home, too.
    With vintage here and there. I love bringing nature indoors.
    Nice to meet you!
